Here we go!

I've got a warmer :)

This video made them relaxed. Especially,"He is a fisherman" part was very funny for them :)

After the video, I introduced the jobs with the flashcards

( Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos.)

I sticked them on the board and we repeated them.

then we played the game seen in the video:

activity 4: magic eyes

And then;

we asked the question " What's your job?"

 All the students gave the answers with different jobs.

We prepared  "fortune teller plates" and we had much fun.

students imagined abot the 20 years later and wrote sentences about their jobs.

HOW MANY?

HOW MANY?

Fisrt step to asking about quantities "how many?"

The students were familiar to the phrase as I chose this song while teaching numbers.:

Numbers 1-10

I chose a simple video to warm up students :)

It's both familiar and simple.

I asked at the end of the video "How many cakes?"

Almost all the students gave the answer "Ten."

And then I simply talked about plural "-s" with visuals.

GAME TIME

I split the classroom into six groups. 

Each group is for each Classroom object.

 And I made up a very very short story:

 It's Autumn. It's windy outside. ( wind blows here :) )

The leaves of the tree flap around. Now You are the one who pick up the leaves again and bring the Spring. :)

And then I gave them 30 seconds to pick up the leaves and stick them on the board.

They picked up and sticked the leaves very quickly. And they took an"-s" and sticked it, too.

The big "-s" snake visited all the words and gave them a photo of itself as a present. And we said the word with "ssssss" at the end because of the snake :D

Wooow! they got tired :D

So, it's song time to relax and have a rest.

we listened to the song and made a little change.

Look, pencils! How many pencils?

One pencil, two pencils, three pencils

bla bla bla..

we sang it together and asked a friend :

how many erasers?

he counted the erasers :)

we asked how many rulers?

he counted the rulers :)

We relaxed and and learnt.


We enjoyed and learnt together.

In the end we create our tree and revised the "how many?" while sticking the leaves to the tree.

FAMILY MEMBERS

FAMILY MEMBERS OR PEPEE?

Which one would you prefer most if you were a child?

Pepee ?

or the stick man's family?

Well....

Bang!

I heard you: 

You said " PEPEE"

Pepee is a wellknown cartoon character by young learners in Turkey so I chose the Family of Pepee to introduce the family members and "Who is this/he/she" phrase.

I used a popular video to warm up students :

We drew faces on our fingers and sang the song together.

After the song, we met the Pepee's family.

And drew a family tree on the notebooks.

Then, it was the tie for asking and answeing questions.

For this activity I prepared a Pepee cap for the Boys and a Hair band of Pepee's sister for the girls.

I asked the question :

"Who is this?"

Students acted as Pepee or Bebe and answered the questions.

Here is a boy with Pepee cap.

Here is a girl with Bebe's Hair band.

And;

I introduced "he" and "she" and they guessed which one for boys and and which one for girls.

  

Students were expected to make sentences using "S/He" so I prepared this words.

I split the classroom 6 groups and gave students words from each word group.

Then I asked the question: "Who is This?"

They make sentences using the papers. 

They had al ot fun and learnt the sentence structure. Also they saw the diffrence between she-he :)

PS.: You can choose a spokesperson for each group and s/he say the sentences. In this way, you can also practce the pronunciation.(this is an advice by one of my colleagues.)

You can use any well-known chracter to teach family members.

Are you Ready?

Hi everyone!!!

Are you ready for the semester?

YESSSSSS!!! I’M!

Puppets, photo frame (is welknown and popular in Turkey), flascards (are my best friends J ) are all ready for the students..

I  met 4th and 2nd graders first time :)

(a nice present from one of my friends <3 )

And the first impression on the students will create the attidue against the lesson so this first meeting was very special for me and for the students.

The ice breakers are also very important for the first meeting.

This year I chose “True or False” activity to break the ice :D

-          Draw a Picture/ Cartoon of yourself

-          Write 5 info about yourself – some true/ some false-

-          Ask the which can be true or false

-          Take notes about the answers

-          Explain the correct info

-          At the end ask students to create the same thing about themselves.

We really had fun

MY BODY (Body Parts) Part-2

Hold on Tight!

 The 2nd part is coming with two games and a monster craft

 :)

1st game is coming:

Run Run Run and Touch

( I made up the name :P)

1. Put the flashcards on a desk.

2. Say the name of one body part.

3. Students have only 10 seconds to find and touch the correct card.

4. The 1st student who touch the correct card say another body part.

5. And the game continues till they will be exhausted :)  (approximately 10 min)

2nd one is a song to rewiev the body parts.

Sing the song, dance, act and enjoy it :)

The result:

I like doing crafts in the classroom.

We made monsters together 

and let the monsters talk 

They learned and practiced " Have got" :)

We had a lot of fun :)

MY BODY (Body Parts) Part-1

Hellooo!

 Our topic is 

"My Body".

My lovely 2nd graders learned most of the body parts. 

They are really good at "eyes, head, fingers,mouth, shoulders".

But "tooth/teeth, Foot/feet" are quite complicated for them.

What did I do to teach?

(not very different :))

I sang songs, played games, drew pictures etc :P

I stepped into the classroom with the song:

" Head Shoulders Knees and Toes".

 All of them surprised and confused. It was really funny :)

I acted the song say it one more time in front them.

 Some of them guessed our topic.

Then I showed the flashcards and named my body parts at the same time.

After flashcards, it was the time for my drawing :)

 I drew Wilma -the flintstones- because it's really easy to draw.

I drew and tagged the parts but I didn't write the names. I asked the students and they said the parts they remembered. We wrote them together.

The students drew and wrote them on their notebooks.

Learn the body  Parts :)

AT THE PLAYGROUND

We learned some simple actions such as :

dance, sing, jump,....... and etc.

I didn't use mother tongue for the actions.

 I wrote them on the board and drew the pictures for the actions. 

I gave enough time for my little stars to write and draw :)

After they finished, we repeated the words for correct pronounciation. 

We acted the actions.

(It was enjoyable.)

Here comes my perfect drawing talent :p

And I have really talented students such as :

And "Let's ...." is our grammer focus.

With 2nd graders -of course- I had a game to teach the "let's...."  phrase.

And I'm sure that 

I did it :)

I prepared a simple dice at home and took it to the class in a bag. 

-the faces of the dice again with my perfect(?) pictures :)))-

When the students asked me, I said "It's a surprise". 

After all the students finished writing, we went outside :) (In fact, I tried to play the game in the classroom 

but in a minute 

the teacher in the next classroom came and said:

"Auch! Sorry! Was it You? I thougt there wasn't a teacher in the classroom. Sorry again!" 

 :)

We ran out and played the game.

1. Make a circle and put the dice in the middle.

2. We have a super simple song for the game:

Lyrics

walking walking walking walking

hop hop hop hop hop hop

running running running running running running

now let's stop.

3. I changed it a little.

walking walking walking walking

hop hop hop hop hop hop

swimming swimming swimming swimming swimming swimming

now let's ................

4. when you say "now let's..." , just stop.

5. One of the students take the dice and throw it.

6. Say the action. eg. "Let's jump"

7. All of them act it and you start singing again: walking .... :)

8. When all the students throw the dice one by one, it's finished.

My energetic 2nd graders really loved it 

and now thay can all say an action using "Let's ...."

As I mentioned before I love TPR method especially with young learners so this game is an alternative way of applying TPR in the classroom to teach simple actions.

It worked for me and my students :)

COLORS WITH GAMES

Hi again :)

I have two simple games for the "Colors" subject.

The first one is.....

1. Students choose 5 different colors and put them on the table. 

( we used crayons and colored pencils for the activity but it's up to your students. They can use any colored material..)

2. They use a book or notebook as the BINGO card.

3. It's your turn now. You say different colors and students put it on the book/notebook. 

4. When s/he put all the colors s/he has chosen, s/he say loudly:"BINGO!"

5. S/he is the winner :)

Simple material but very enjoyable and exiting for especially very young learner such as my 2nd grader :)

Have you ever played SPUD?

 Yes, the second is..

I've just adapted it to the "colors" subject. ;)

SPUD 

Spud is a popular tossing and catching ball game played by at least 4 players or more. One player has the ball and the others gather around. The player throws the ball straight up in the air, while calling out a name of one of the players. The called player has to try to catch the ball, while the others run away as fast as they can.  When the called player catches the ball, he is allowed to throw it back in the air, while calling out another player’s name that then has to try to catch the ball. If he doesn't catch the ball then he has to pick it up and call loudly: "SPUD". Everybody has to freeze. The player with the ball chooses an opponent to hit with the ball and he can take two big hops towards his victim. If he hits his opponent with the ball the opponent receives the letter "S". If he misses or his victim catches the ball, then the thrower gets the letter "S". The penalized player starts the next round by throwing the ball up. As the game goes on, the players receive first S, then P, then U and then D. The first player who receives all four letters SPUD is the loser. A very popular and easy ball game to play with kids.

What did I change?

The part in Italic has changed a little.

( In fact, it's the way how we play it in Turkey)

"The player with the ball chooses a color and calls it out. At that time the other players try to find the color . When they have found it, they have to touch it. While the players are trying to find th color,the player with the ball tries to hit one of the players before touching the color." 

And it goes on the same way. :)

We call this game "İSTOP" in TURKEY :)

It's really easy to play and enjoyable. 

But you need a good weather condition and a ball

NEW PHRASES WATCH

This is our trendy watch trade mark :) 

My students and I really like making our new phrases watch(NPW) -this is what we call it- :)

The aim of this watch is clear: to make the learners remember what they have learned  during the last class. For example; we learned the greeting phrases last week and we made NPW. They wore it during the last week.

So, they could see the phrases again and again which means they have practiced the phrases at least a few times ;) and now many of them can say and write the phrases correctly.

The best point is that: The students like reviewing what they learn because it's just a game and fun for them ;)

HOW TO MAKE A NPW?

It's really easy. I use a plastic water bottle's bottom and draw a circle. I cut it as you see in the picture. 

Then students write the new phrases in the circle. And the enjoyable part is the decorating time :) The students decorate the watches. 

We glue the watches and wear them :)
